Mower Blade Safety

Did you know that a mower blade whirls at speeds as fast as 200 miles per hour? That’s a good reason to keep fingers and toes out of the mowing chamber. If a mower discharge shoot becomes jammed with a clog of grass, never put your hand inside to clear the clog. Shut off the mower, and use a stick or tool to remove the blockage. It’s also important to remember to cover your feet with leather shoes. Sandals might be airy on a hot day, but they don’t protect you from objects that could be thrown by a cutting blade. Be extra careful when mowing backward with a walk-behind mower. Don’t pull back too far and run over your toes.
